WHAT ARE THE BEST SPEED WRAPS FOR BOXING WORKOUTS?
There are different ways to wrap hands for boxing but it depends on your level of boxing training, reason for punching and even past injuries.
– This post is for women who want to know the best way to wrap their hands for punching workouts. AKA: THE BEST SPEED WRAPS FOR BOXING
I realize that for many of you, wrapping your hands can be cumbersome and time consuming. You just want to start moving, punching and burning calories. I understand. So, you probably have bought the quick speed wrap style glove to cut time and difficulty of wrapping your hands. Now this is a better alternative than not using NO wrap but the major problem is that there is no strap to secure the small bones of the hand which leads to most punching injuries. When you punch, you want the small bones of your hand to be strong and secure. This helps prevent sprained wrist ligaments, elbow strain and/or even a possible fracture of the hand and forearm. Believe me. Wearing hand wraps in the first few weeks doesn’t seem to matter but as you get better, you’re going to start punching harder and more frequent. This will eventually result into injury. Summary: you must wear a good hand wrap to punch a heavy bag or mitts.
WHY WEAR BOXING SPEED HAND WRAPS (QUICK WRAPS FOR BOXING WORKOUTS)
Boxing hand speed wraps are great to have for workouts when you need to change up quickly between lifting weights and punching. Good speed wraps allow you to grab dumbbells, ropes and a bar to perform pull ups and other exercises that most fighters use to get into fighting shape. Traditional hand wraps are usually 180″ which can be bulky and thick within the palm of the hand which can make picking up dumbbells more challenging. Also, the regular wraps unravel quickly when used for exercises other than punching.
So, I suggest you definitely purchase an extra pair of protective speed wraps in your bag when cross training weight weights and punching exercises. Just make sure the hand wraps have good wrist and knuckle protection, are made of athletic material with double stitching.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH MOST SPEED HAND WRAPS (INNER GLOVES)?
PROBLEM #1: MADE WITH RIBBED CLOTH The majority of the inner gloves that are inexpensive ($7 to $12) have ribbed material.. The ribbed material can cause big issues. The material causes friction on your skin when punching. This will lead to skin irritation, red knuckles and sometimes makes the skin blister. Also, these gloves that use ribbed cloth use a tight short stitch between the fingers which makes you squeeze your fingers into the holes leading to poor circulation. An example of this type of speed wrap with both these issues is below: .
PROBLEM #2: HAVE A BULKY FOAM PADDING FOR KNUCKLES Speed wraps that are inexpensive usually have little or too much padding. The wraps that have little padding usually don’t use a gel padding which is critical for good knuckle protection. The wraps that have too much padding use a foam padding because it’s an inexpensive material to give some protection but doesn’t work for those who are looking to box. The padding looses ability to protect the knuckles within just a few weeks. The biggest flaw of the foam padding is that when punching the foam can push back towards the hand when you punch a bag or mitt. Now you have to reset the pad back to its original position to get protection. Plus, the foam pad makes putting your hand into a 12 ounce glove very difficult and too tight. An example of a speed wrap with foam padding is below:
For these reasons, save your money and spend an extra $5 to $8 for the BEST SPEED WRAPS FOR BOXING.

SPEED WRAP #2 : EVERLAST HAND WRAPS (GEL PADDED)
These Everlast Speed Wraps are certainly better than the cloth ribbed wraps. However, the stitching seems to break apart within just a few weeks and the gel padding is minimum. The wrist strap is present but it doesn’t come with extra elastic wraps to secure the small bones of the hands. We do recommend these wraps but the EZ-WRAP LITE VERSION is superior in both quality and protection.
